Softball falls in series opener with Pomona-Pitzer

Chapman drops to 5-2 in the SCIAC.

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University softball team fell 2-0 to Pomona-Pitzer on windy day at El Camino Real Park. Pomona-Pitzer scored both runs in the third inning to get the series-opening win.

A pair of late RBI-singles followed a pair of errors in the inning to bring both runs home. Nyla Springer was able to hold the Panthers' offense to just four hits to earn her fourth victory of the season. A handful of highlight reel plays from the Sagehens' infield aided in Springer's dominant effort with multiple coming in the early innings from Claire Sefkow at shortstop.

Rose Malen allowed the two unearned runs but struck out three in the complete game effort. She allowed just five hits to the Sagehens.She retired eight of the last nine batters to keep Chapman in the game.

Sam Mather had two of the Panthers' four hits, lining a pair of singles into the outfield.

The series moves to Claremont, Calif. and concludes with a Saturday doubleheader, beginning at noon.
