ORANGE, Calif. — The Chapman University baseball team fell to Redlands at home Friday evening 7-2 after taking a break from SCIAC play a weekend ago. Throughout the first five innings, Chapman played extremely efficiently giving up just one run through the fifth. Starting pitcher
Nick Molina pulled double duty, as both a pitcher and a batter in the sixth hole.
On the mound, Molina pitched 4.2 innings, recorded five strikeouts, gave up just one earned run and five nine hits.
Finean Hunter-Kenney and
Jacob Moreda closed out the game giving up just one run each along with striking out two runners to close out the game.
At bat,
Brady Altman led the way with two hits and a run. When he wasn't on the mound, Molina also had two hits and an RBI.
Joey Capobianco,
Tate Zimmerman and
Blake Jacobs also managed to get the ball in play.
In the ninth inning, the Panthers forged what looked like a possible comeback, as Altman hit a single to right field. With
Keegan Goddard on first, he advanced to second. With Zimmerman up to bat, he launched one into centerfield bringing home Goddard and advancing Altman to second base.
Blake Jacobs then also got the ball in play and advanced Altman to third base. Molina then came up to bat and hit Altman home.
Despite the momentum being built, the game ended shortly thereafter on a pop fly out. The Panthers will continue their conference series with a doubleheader at Redlands Saturday morning. First pitch is set for 11 AM.
