ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University baseball team split Sunday's doubleheader with Lewis & Clark, winning 6-3 before dropping the finale 8-4. Nick Molina picked up his first career win in the early game victory.
Game 1 – W, 6-3
After hitting two home runs yesterday, Nick Molina picked up his first career victory on the mound in the early comeback win. Molina tossed five innings and struck out three to pick up the win.
Finean Hunter-Keney and Joshua Cantwell-Nahrung finished the game with four scoreless innings of relief. Hunter-Kenney struck out four in two innings while Cantwell-Nahrung earned the save with two strikeouts in two shutout innings.
The Panthers trailed 3-2 in the third but tied the game on a Blake Jacobs triple and an RBI-double from Andrew Powers. Keegan Goddard doubled in two more in the fourth to add to the lead and the bullpen did the rest for the victory.
Game 2- L, 8-4
The Panthers once again trailed 3-2 in the late game but Lewis & Clark put together the late rally to clinch the series win. Matthew Kuromoto put together a quality start, allowing three runs over six innings while striking out five. However, Lewis & Clark got to the bullpen for five insurance runs in the seventh and eighth.
Brady Altman went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs, singling in a run in the fourth and doubling in another in the eighth. He now leads the team with 14 RBIs on the year.
Briggs Ellis brought in a run and Joey Capoianco knocked home his 10th RBI of the year.
The Panthers are back in SCIAC play this weekend with a three-game series against Whittier. Chapman will host Whittier on Friday at 3pm and conclude the series at Whittier with a doubleheader on Saturday.
