Baseball fall to Lewis & Clark twice

Nick Molina hit a home run in each game of the doubleheader.

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University baseball dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Lewis & Clark, 17-5 and 10-3. Nick Molina hit a home run in both games.

Game 1 – L, 17-6

Lewis & Clark put up seven runs in the third inning to jump out to a big lead and followed it up with five more in the sixth, two in the seventh and three in the eighth. The River Otters combined 11 hits with six hit batters to put up the big innings. They also stole 10 bases.

Chapman scored a pair of runs in the fifth inning but Lewis & Clark responded with five in the sixth. Joey Capobianco and Nick Molina each hit two-run homers in the sixth to get four runs back. Both are now tied for the team lead with three.

Game 2 – L, 10-3

The River Otters continued to swing a hot bat with 10 runs on 15 hits. The scored at least a run in six different innings with the knockout blow coming after a four-run sixth.

After falling behind 2-0, Keegan Goddard roped an RBI single back up the middle to cut the lead in half. Lewis & Clark responded in the fourth. Molina hit his second home run of the day in the fifth but Lewis & Clark once again responded with a four-spot in the sixth.

Luke Bradley and Ryan Iveson combined for 12 strikeouts on the mound while Lucas Perez caught two runners stealing to slow down the River Otters on the basepaths.

Chapman and Lewis & Clark meet for another doubleheader tomorrow at 11 a.m.
