Women's tennis downs Whitworth

The Panthers put forth a dominant effort in the singles lineup.

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's tennis team captured a 6-1 victory over visiting Whitworth on Sunday. The Panthers cruised to the afternoon victory in the middle of their run of three matches in three days.

The Panthers easily captured the team win with dominant performances in the singles lineups. In the bottom four matches, all four Panthers won at least one set 6-0 with Sofiya Khegay winning 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 4 match to highlight the win.

Chapman's singles run came after battling to win the doubles point.  Makaylee and Malina Dahms won 6-4 at the top of the doubles lineup but Whitworth's pair won 7-5 in the No. 3 match. Chloe McBride and Lucy Wallin were able to return the favor with a 7-5 win in the No. 2 match to clinch the opening point for the Panthers.

McBride went on to battle through a tough match at the top of the singles lineup and eventually pulled off a 6-4, 6-3 victory. Both Dahms sisters won in straight sets while Jaya Manhas won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6.

Chapman continues its run tomorrow with a matchup against the Panthers of Middlebury College at 10 a.m. and will be followed by the men's team against Williams at 2 p.m.
