ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University baseball team finished off a series sweep of Willamette with a 9-3 win on Sunday. Two more home runs and another scoreless outing from the bullpen helped complete the sweep.
Blake Jacobs and Tate Zimmerman both went deep again as the pair combined for five home runs in the series. Jacobs hit a two-run blast in the third to break a 3-3 tie while Zimmerman added some late insurance with a two-run homer in the seventh.
Keegan Goddard delivered a two-RBI double in the second to give the Panthers a 3-1 lead and Joey Capobianco also doubled in a run in the seventh to push the lead to 7-3. Ryan Nopper and Brent Valentine each hit sacrifice flies to bring in a run.
Chapman once again reached double digits in the hit column with 11 hits, including five for extra bases, to overcome three errors in the field.
Ryan Iveson delivered a quality start as he allowed just three runs (one earned) on four hits over six string innings. He struck out four and did not issue a walk although he hit a pair of batters. Joshua Cantwell-Nahrung struck out two and allowed just one hit over two scoreless relief innings. Graham Stogner finished off the game with another perfect ninth, striking out two.
The Panthers head back into SCIAC play on Friday when they open a three-game set with Cal Lutheran at Hart Park at 3 p.m.
