ORANGE, Calif. – Tahlia Cahill pulled off a three-set victory to clinch a 4-3 win for the Chapman University women's tennis team over Smith College. The Panthers snapped a three-match skid with the narrow victory.
The Panthers won four singles matches to comeback for the team win after dropping the doubles point. Cahill's victory was also a comeback as she rebounded from a first set loss to win the clinching point. It was also the first dual victory of her career as she made her first appearance in a dual lineup.
Cahill's 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 win on the No. 6 court came after some hard -fought straight set victories. At the top of the lineup, Chloe McBride battled to a 7-6, 6-3 win. Sofiya Khegay also had to go to a tiebreaker in the first set but ultimately won 7-6, 6-4. Malina Dahms was leading 5-2 in the first set when her opponent retired.
Smith captured the other two singles matches, winning the No. 2 match in a tight third set – 0-6, 6-1, 7-5.
The Panthers face next face Colorado College on Saturday at 2 p.m.
