ORANGE, Calif. – The women's tennis team fell for the first time this season with a hard-fought 4-3 loss to Westmont. The match came down to a tiebreaker in the third set of the last singles match as Chapman nearly pulled off the upset.
Sofiya Khegay came back after narrowly dropping to the first set 7-5 to even the final singles match with a 6-0 victory. The two opponents went back and forth in the third set and needed a tiebreaker when the set reached 6-6. Westmont's Ellie Triplett pulled out a 7-5 victory in the tiebreaker to claim the match.
Chapman had fallen behind after dropping the doubles point. However, the Panthers fought back with a 6-3, 6-3 win from Lucy Wllin and a dominant 6-0, 6-1 win from Malina Dahms. Jaya Manhas also claimed a 6-1, 6-4 victory to help set up a match tied at 3-3.
The Warriors pulled out a win on the No. 1 court and a three-set win at No. 3 to set up the late drama on court No. 4.
The Panthers are back on the Anderson Tennis Center courts on Mar. 10 to take on Sewanee at 3 p.m.
