Serna's walkoff caps doubleheader sweep

The Panthers won 2-0 and 3-2 over Carleton.

ORANGE, Calif. – Ilianna Serna delivered the walkoff single in the nightcap to complete a doubleheader sweep of visiting Carleton. Serna knocked in three of the Panthers' five runs in the doubleheader.

Chapman took both ends of an out of the ordinary doubleheader, 2-0 and 3-2. The first game was played at Steve Ambriz Park before moving back El Camino for the second game.

Game 1 – W, 2-0

Chapman scored twice in the first and Rose Malen dominated in the circle for a 2-0 win to start the day at Ambriz Park. Malen went the distance for the complete game shutout, striking out eight along the way. She did not issue a free pass and scattered five singles to get her fourth win of the year.

With two on and none out in the first, Serna pushed a bunt to the right side of the infield and past the pitcher. With the middle of the infield vacated on the bunt rotation, Miranda Murphy sped home all the way from second for the game's first run.

Jojo Westerfield added on an RBI groundout and that completed the scoring as the pitchers battled in the circle. Rachel Block limited Chapman to the two runs on four hits and struck out a pair.

Game 2 – W, 3-2

Chapman entered the seventh inning with just two infield hits – a slow roller beat out by Mia Reyes and a dribbler in front of the plate that allowed Tiana Redder-Monaghan to reach safely.

Charisma Ortel sparked the seventh inning rally with the first single of her Chapman career and Grace Fosselman followed with a single of her own. After Samantha Kennedy sacrificed both runners over, Murphy singled in a run and moved herself into scoring position behind a throw to the plate.

With two away, Serna dropped a single into right field to score the tying and game-winning runs.

Ashley Hester made the start in the circle and Cameron Burroughs finished the last two innings to earn the win,

Chapman moved to 13-2 on the year and will next take on Williams at 11 a.m. on Mar. 26. In another non-conference doubleheader.
