ORANGE, Calif.— Chapman baseball (5-12) fell 6-0 to Tufts (4-7) at Hart Park Wednesday afternoon. The Panthers held the Jumbos scoreless through the first four innings. Starting pitcher
Colin Godfrey was on the mound for the first three innings, striking out three and giving up three hits.
Tufts came alive in the fifth inning, as Max Pavlik hit a single out to left field, bringing Ian Robertson home. On the Panther's side,
Josh Phillips managed to get two hits while
Austin Dudas,
Brad Lang,
Matt Campopiano and
Charlie Sturm all contributed one hit.
Despite that, Chapman was never able to gain the momentum needed take over the game. Tufts maintained a 1-0 lead until the top of the eighth and ninth innings.
Those last two innings of play, the Panthers gave up another five runs off a few sacrificed fly balls and errors. Robertson, Nick Banner, Ozzie Fleischer, Jesse McCullough, and Cooper Smith all scored in the ninth inning. Most of those runs were also unearned.
The Panthers will look to regain momentum on Mar. 21 as they prepare to host Middlebury for a three game series starting Friday at 3:00 p.m.
