ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's tennis team fell 4-3 to visiting Vassar on Wednesday. The Panthers split the six singles matches after dropping the doubles point.
Vassar clinched the doubles point with victories on the second and third courts. With rain in the forecast, the No. 1 doubles match was not played to completion in order to start the singles as soon as possible.
The singles matches swung the team score back and forth. Chloe McBride and Sydney La captured two quick straight set victories. Vassar countered with straight set wins in the top two singles courts to take a 3-2 lead. Brooke Waite rebounded from a 5-2 deficit in the second set to push the No. 3 match into a third but Vassar captured the clinching point on the No. 6 court to take the team victory.
Waite went on to win the tiebreaker to take the third set 5-7, 7-5, 1-0 (10-3).
Chapman is set to return to the court on Sunday at 10 a.m. to take on Babson.
