Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Lindsey Heinecken

Karjian scores game-winner over Oxy

The Panthers won 1-0 for the second game in a row.

Chapman women's soccer defeated previously undefeated Occidental 1-0 to pick up three points at the midway point of the SCIAC season. The Panthers improved to 2-2-2 in SCIAC matches.

The Panthers scored ten minutes into the first half for the only goal of the game. Junior Karys McKinney crossed it into the box to Sidney Karjian, who finished with a right-footed shot just under the bar. McKinney picked up her second assist in as many games.

Both teams battled but Chapman demonstrated their perseverance by outshooting Occidental 14-10. Strong defensive plays thwarted Occidental's attacks as juniors Kate Stenta and Casey Gilligan made key stops in the back. Sophomore goalkeeper Bella
Barretto's six saves earned the Panthers their sixth shutout of the season.
The Panthers look to continue their winning streak on Saturday, Oct. 11. They are scheduled to take on No. 7 Pomona-Pitzer.
