Women's soccer takes down top-10 Sagehens

ORANGE, Calif. – Emma Harper struck again to lift the Chapman University women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over No. 8 Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday night. The Panthers handed the Sagehens their first loss of the season as Harper headed in the game's only goal.

A series of three corner kicks for the Panthers around the 68th minute led to the only goal of the match as corner connection from Jenna Urrabazo to Harper struck once again. Urrabazo's first corner found the head of Harper but a deflection off a defender send it harmlessly out for another corner.

The second corner resulted in a scrum inside the box and the dangerous opportunity ultimately ended up with a shot over the bar. The third time proved to be the charm as Urrabazo again found Harper on the back post but this time she buried the header for a 1-0 lead.

The Panthers were able to keep the Sagehens off the board over the final 20-plus minutes to score the upset victory. The Sagehens fired off 10 of their 14 shots in the second half but Aaliyah Bustamante made five of her six saves in the final 45 minutes to complete the shutout victory.

Chapman put five of its 11 shots on goal and earned four corners in the match while surrendering only one.

The Panthers head out to La Verneon Wednesday before returning home on Saturday for an early morning match against UC Santa Cruz.
