ORANGE, Calif. – Five different players scored in a 5-0 season-opening win for the Chapman University women's soccer team over Oberlin. The Panthers started the season with a dominant performance that saw a pair of freshmen begin their careers with a goal.
Chapman owned the run of play as they fired off 23 shots and put 13 on goal while limiting Oberlin to just four shots in the match. Jenna Urrabazo scored and assisted on another goal to open her junior campaign.
Sidney Karjian scored just under 20 minutes into the match and opened the flood gates for the Panthers. Nikki Zokaei's first career goal came from a tough angle but she was able to find the netting in the 35th minute for a 2-0 halftime lead.
Urrabazo, freshman Kary McKinney and Madeline Achkar each scored in the second half as Chapman continued to dominate possession. Pilar Vanhuesden assisted on Karjian's opening goal and Urrabazo's goal early in the second half. Andrea DiVittorio was aother impactful freshman as she assisted on McKinney's goal along with Jana Komposch.
The Panthers head to Santa Cruz, Calif. next week to take on Chicago on Friday and Pacific on Sunday.
