ORANGE, Calif. — Chapman Baseball took two against Caltech and a series sweep, beating the Beavers 11-0 in the first game and 4-1 in game two.
Game 1 – W, 11-0 (Final 7)
Chapman came out swinging early, putting up seven runs over the first three innings. Matt Campopiano continued his surge at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and a single. He led off the game with an opposite-field double into the left-field corner.Â
The Panthers notched four hits in the first inning and put up a three-spot. Kai Osaka headlined the inning with a two-run double to bring home Campopiano and Austin Dudas, who reached on a perfectly placed bunt single.
Chapman tallied 12 hits in the game. The dagger came in the sixth – a two-RBI single from Clay Patton eclipsed the ten-run mark. He scored on a passed ball later in the inning to finish off Chapman's explosive game one on offense.
On the mound, Brandon Menzel was stellar, tossing six innings of no-run ball. He allowed three hits and one walk and recorded five strikeouts. He improved to 6-2 on the season with the win. Matthew Kuromoto finished out the game with a clean seventh.
Game 2, W, 4-1
The pitching stepped up this weekend as seven Panther pitchers combined to give up one run across 23 innings. Graham Stogner led the pack in the final game of the series, going seven strong, allowing one run, and striking out nine.
The offense capitalized on key Caltech mistakes in the first to tack on a three-spot in the frame. An errand throw with two away brought home the first run, and a dropped fly ball the next batter scored two more. Chapman scored another unearned run in the seventh.
Dylan Holt and Henry Chabot came on in the eighth and ninth. They each threw a clean inning, and Chabot earned his sixth save of the season.
Chapman continues SCIAC play next weekend, facing the current conference leaders, La Verne, on Friday and Saturday, April 19-20.Â
