ORANGE, Calif. — Baseball dropped game two of its three-game set against SUNY Cortland 5-2 in 11 innings.
Matthew Kuromoto highlighted the evening for the Panthers, tossing 4.1 innings of relief, spinning seven strikeouts. He allowed only one hit. Kuromoto marks his longest appearance of his young career, and kept the Panthers in the game as things were getting out of hand.
He entered the game with two runners on and one out with a 2-1 Cortland lead in the fifth. Having to face the four and five hitters in the lineup, Kuromoto opened his outing with a punchout and a soft comebacker to end the inning.
Chapman tied it up in the bottom of the fifth as AJ Anzai knocked a single into left field. He recorded two hits on the day; he was the only Panther with more than one hit.Â
That was all the offense would get, however, as the Red Dragons blanked the Panthers from the fifth inning on. A three-spot in the 11th for Cortland sealed the victory.
Chapman's woes at the plate continue as they struck out 11 times and tallied seven hits.
The Panthers look to salvage the third game of the series on Saturday at 1 p.m.
