ORANGE, Calif. – Sidney Karjian and Pilar Vanhuesden scored to lead the Chapman women's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Occidental on Wednesday. The Panther earned a crucial three points to stay in fifth place in the standings at the halfway point of the season.

The Panthers dominated possession for much of the match, outshooting the Tigers 14-5. The Panthers set the tone from the opening whistle as Vanhuesden ripped a shot in the opening minute but hit the outside of the side netting.

In the 12th minute, Vanhuesden slipped a pass through to Karjian and she buried the 1-on-1 opportunity for an early lead. Vanhuesden scored her goal in the 67th minute when she knocked in a cross from Jenna Urrabazo for her team-leading third goal of the season. Urrabazo was credited with her SCIAC-leading sixth assist.

Brianna Zamora made three saves in the shutout.

Chapman heads to Whittier on Saturday to start a three-match road swing.
