ORANGE— The Chapman Panthers (6-6-2, 5-4-1 SCIAC) locked down a close 1-0 victory against Caltech (3-10-1, 2-8-0 SCIAC) Wednesday night at Wilson Field.
In a game where it seemed the Panthers could not catch a break shooting on goal, senior forward
Stella Bauman proved relentless. She broke away with the ball to punch in the game's one and only goal in the lower left corner of the net at the 60 minute mark.
Enthused by that offensive attack, Chapman dominated all night on Caltech's half of the field with 20 shot attempts compared to just four for Caltech.
With under 10 minutes to play, and their victory almost sealed, Caltech earned a free kick. They launched a 25 yard bomb towards the top right post. But sophomore goal keeper
Aaliyah Bustamante punched the shot over the top of the net leaving the Caltech bench shocked and Chapman's letting out sighs of relief.
The Panthers will look to carry over momentum from Wednesday's win as the travel to play at Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday, October 26 at 11:00 a.m.
