ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's soccer team fell 2-0 to No. 18 Cal Lutheran on Wednesday. The Panthers suffered their first loss and shutout of the season. The Panthers fell to 2-1-3, 1-1-1 SCIAC while Cal Lutheran is 7-0-1, 3-0 SCIAC.
Both Cal Lutheran goals came in the second half after Chapman played the Regals through a tight first half. Isabella Veljacic scored both goals for Cal Lutheran – the first coming less than two minutes into the second half. The Regals connected a few passes to find Veljacic open near the top of the box for a shot into the lower left side.
In the 64th minute, Veljacic struck again. A corner kick set the sequence in motion that eventually led to a handful of Regals running on to a cross into the box with Veljacic just touching it past Chapman's keeper.
The Regals were able to hold Chapman back and limit the Panthers' late chances to stay undefeated.
The road doesn't get much easier for the Panthers as they head to another nationally-ranked team on Saturday, taking on No. 9 Pomona-Pitzer on the road at 11 a.m.
